Daft Punk “Electrifies the Boys and Girls” In New Tron Trailer

Posted by on Oct 28, 2010

I know, I know, it was only a week ago I was talking about Daft Punk.  But they’re back – oh man, are they back.  On October 26th, a new trailer was released for TRON: Legacy, and since the robotic pair scored the film, it’s only appropriate that the trailer also function as a music video for one of the songs on the soundtrack.

Check out the video and get more data on the duo after the jump.

First of all, this song, “Derezzed,” is BUMPIN’.  There is actually no better word I can think of to use in this situation.  I’ve watched this clip at least 7 times now – I lost count.

Michael Sheen kicks it off with his best David Bowie impersonation, asking Daft Punk in their cameo roles to “electrify the boys and girls,” and they comply in style.  The trailer itself uses a lot of footage from the previous trailers, but definitely includes a few more interesting clips, especially ones of identity disc and light cycle combat.  I have to say, I love the dual-purpose nature of this video.  Disney is definitely making this a hybrid-media experience.  Speaking of hybridization, this also strikes me as a prime example of a classic nerd property merging with the mainstream.  I feel like the distinction between what is “nerdy” and what is just normal is getting harder and harder to make.  At this rate, we’ll have to change the name of the site to just “News And Reviews.”

  • While I agree that “Nerd is the New Cool,” let’s keep in mind that 99% of people still consider this a super nerdy enterprise. TRON certainly falls into that barrel, and I don’t think Daft Punk has enough in the way of mainstream cred to pull this movie into the mainstream spotlight.

Of course that doesn’t change the fact that I’m SUPER FUCKING PUMPED FOR THIS MOVIE.
