Firefly Re-aired in HD and the Right Order
The Science Channel is planning to re-air the entire Firefly series starting (on March 6th at 8pm) with the two hour pilot episode. In contrast, Fox cleverly aired the pilot somewhere mid-season in their initial run, preventing anyone from understanding the backstory. For more on the whys and wherefores, Entertainment Weekly recently did an excellent interview with Nathan Fillion.
I like this for a number of reasons. Hit the jump to see why.
- If you, or your loved ones haven’t seen Firefly, this is the perfect opportunity to do it in a TV format – one episode a week, as it was intended.
- More random people might stumble on Firefly, fall in love, go investigate more, and learn what a travesty the original airing was.
- If enough of you partake of #1 and #2 above, maybe someone will bring Firefly back. Nathan Fillion already said that he would play Mal again (although Whedon has been a little less gung-ho, understandably because having a show canceled hurts).
Either way, I plan to take the opportunity to watch it, because I’m not sure I’ve ever seen anything with such a potential to be ridiculously nerdy and campy (it’s a space western…) be done so cleverly and well.
