Today is Free Comic Book Day Awareness Day

Posted by on May 6, 2011

Ahh the first Saturday in May.  Spring has fully set in, the sun is shining, and there’s no work or school.  The day is also home to two other time-honored traditions:  The Kentucky Derby and Free Comic Book Day.  We love both, but since we are not called Horse News And Reviews, I am going to focus on the latter.

For the uninitiated, Free Comic Book Day is an annual event that takes place every year (as annual events are wont to do) on the first Saturday in May, which happens to be tomorrow.  Comic book stores across America will be offering free comics and other swag to any and all who walk through their doors.  There is an official list of the free comics available (most of which are special “Free Comic Book Day” editions featuring different covers, etc.) to be found here.  I’m personally going for the Locke & Key issue, as well as that cool little Green Lantern figure down at the bottom.  Oh and who can say no to a Darkwing Duck comic?

Be warned that not all stores participate (though I would posit that any worth their salt do), so you will have to find one local to you that does.  Luckily, the interwebs have us covered there too.  The Free Comic Book Day store locator allows you to enter your zipcode and find out which stores near you are involved.  In many cases, it will also provide a link to the store’s website where they will offer further details into their participation.  I would look through these links, as different places allow customers different numbers of free things, and some even offer unofficial swag of their own!

So be sure to get up early and beat the rush tomorrow so you can get some good books before they are all gone.  For all the info you will ever need on FCBD, check the official website.
