Newest Hobbit Production Video(s)
“Chip the glasses crack the plates, that’s what Bilbo Baggins hates.” Cram 13 Dwarves, 1 wizard, and 1 timid, overly-concerned-with-manners little Hobbit into one room for dinner, and what do you get? Two excellent Peter Jackson films! With the third (and in my opinion, best) production video released just hours ago, we can really, for the first time, step back into Middle Earth, and whet our appetites for The Hobbit, Parts 1 and 2.
The first production video gave us an insight into the first moments of production – we got to see the characters, walk through the set of Rivendell, and see a few actors, both familiar and new.
The second gives us a look into the people behind the scenes, and how absolutely exhausting it can be to make a movie, especially one of this magnitude. We get to see a shaggy Andy Serkis (who was bumped up to Second Unit Director), a few of the Dwarves, and a team of helicopters scouring Middle Earth, er, New Zealand for different locations for various scenes. See it for yourself below.
This third video has a much more comic feel to it. We finally get to see the Dwarves in character. After the photo release of the 13 all in costume last week, we get to see them live on the screen. And just as Gimli was hilarious in LOTR, these 13 hooligans are a riot. Literally. And poor little Bilbo will have to clean up the mess. Jackson shows us Gandalf, a few glimpses of Bilbo, and a great little James Bond-esque intro featuring… himself. I could literally watch these on repeat.
The first film, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is set to release in December, 2012. The Hobbit: There and Back Again, is set to release one year later, in December of 2013. The Silmarillion is… nah, just kidding. On that front we can only dare to hope.
