Diablo III Open Beta This Weekend

It’s (almost) the moment we’ve all been waiting for.  As you know, the release for Diablo 3 is just around the corner.  With this in mind, Blizzard announced today that they will be opening up their Diablo 3 servers this weekend to anyone with a valid (and free) Battle.net account, so that they might experience the game and run the servers through their paces.  The servers will become available at 3:00pm EDT on Friday April 20th – yup, that’s TODAY. Diablo III Gets a Release Date

Fanboys and fangirls everywhere have been waiting for this moment for more than decade: the moment when we would finally get a release date for Diablo III. That moment is now, and the release date is May 15, exactly two months from today.  If you are anything like us, this means you have exactly two months to get your affairs in order, say goodbye to your loved ones, and finish up any other games you may be in the middle of, because once that date hits, we won’t be doing anything but playing this game non-stop. Full press release after the jump.

Chrono Trigger

Chrono Trigger Now Available for the iPhone

This news is huge.  Ever since I first got my iPhone and discovered I could purchase and play the original Final Fantasy (and then over time, FF2, FF3, and Secret of Mana), I have been clamoring for Square Enix to release Chrono Trigger, one of the best role playing games of all time.  That day has finally come.   Read moreRead more

Aaron Sorkin

Aaron Sorkin’s New HBO Series Gets a Name

The newest series from Aaron Sorkin about the behind-the-scenes action at a fictional television program has just gotten a title, MediaBistro reports.  Sorkin’s newest is said to be titled Newsroom and will star Jeff Daniels as the lead anchor of a popular cable news show called “News Night.”

We first reported on Sorkin’s latest back in June when Tom’s hero Sam Waterston signed on to the show (at the time known as More As This Story Develops).  Since then, we’ve learned that HBO has ordered a full series.  I haven’t been able to find any info about when we can expect to actually see this show hit the air, but I do know that I feel much more confident that it is on HBO and not a major network.  We will of course follow additional news about Newsroom as it develops.

Humble Introversion Bundle

Humble Introversion Bundle

These guys just don’t stop.  Hot on the heels of the last Humble Indie Bundle comes this newest iteration which features some great games from indie studio Introversion.

This bundle features Uplink, DEFCON, Darwinia, and Multwinia.  Anyone who spends more than the average (currently around $3.25) will get  Aquaria and Crayon Physics Deluxe as well.  I own most of these titles already, so I can vouch for their awesomeness. DEFCON and Darwinia are two of the best indie games I’ve ever played.  Also, until you’ve played the Cold War-esque DEFCON on a 35 foot projection screen, you haven’t really lived.  But enough out of me.  Check out the always funny Humble Bundle video after the jump, and then go buy those games. Skyward Sword

Awesome Zelda Violin Medley

I know a lot of you out there are probably already playing The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.  I haven’t had a chance, since I don’t have a Wii, but rest assured that I plan to take control of the one at my parents’ house over Thanksgiving.  For the rest of you who, like me, need your Zelda fix, you should check out this video featuring a violin medley of many songs in the Zelda canon.  Also featured: a gorgeous Lindsey Stirling in a blue Link costume. Check it out after the jump.

Humble Voxatron Debut

The Humble Bundle Is At It Again

It seems the fine folks who are responsible for the many iterations of the Humble Bundle are back at it with a special Halloween edition, of The Humble Voxatron Debut. This time you aren’t really getting a bundle, because there’s only one game, but since you pay what you want, that hardly matters, does it? This newest iteration is for the world premier of Voxatron, which looks pretty awesome in the video on the HB website (and embedded below). This is currently only the alpha version of the game, but Humble Bundle promises that those who buy will receive all future updates (including the final release) for free with purchase.

So go forth and purchase. Support indie gaming, because it’s awesome. And check out the preview video after the Jump.

In Time

Review: In Time

For those of you who have been living under a rock for the past few months, the country has recently seen the rise of a new protest movement known as Occupy Wall Street (seriously, if you haven’t heard of this yet you need to put down that Xbox controller right now and go outside for a few minutes).  This movement takes the stance that the top %1 of the country controls well above 90% of the wealth and political influence in the country.

As someone who is concerned with all things geek, it is rare that I find myself in the world of politics (in my writing, at least).  I certainly didn’t expect to find myself there when I ventured to my local theater tonight to see In Time, the new dystopian sci-fi film starring Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried. But there I was, as this movie could just has easily have been titled Occupy Dystopian Future, or something similar. Read moreRead more

Its a Secret to Everybody

Joss Whedon Is Almost Finished With A Secret Film

I don’t really know how to react to this news, as it is a little too awesome to process.  Joss Whedon has apparently just finished principle photography on a completely secret film project called Much Ado About Nothing, based on the William Shakespeare play of the same name.  Until links to the film website were tweeted out by some of the film’s actors last night, nobody knew this project was even happening.  So let me get this straight:  Joss Whedon adapted one of the most well-known plays of all time into a movie he’s directing and just finished shooting, while at the same time he’s is directing (and wrote!) what will probably be the highest grossing film of next year?  Just…wow.   Check out the full press release (which is worth reading, because it is funny) and casting details after the Jump.

BlizzCon News: New Diablo 3 Trailer Released

It’s a really good thing that I completely forgot that BlizzCon 2011 was this weekend until about five minutes ago.  If I hadn’t, I would probably have spent the entire week reading everything there is to read about Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm (again) in anticipation of all of the announcements to come.  Since I did forget, however, I got a nice surprise on a Friday with a new game trailer showing some unbelievably badass demons about to lay down the hurt on the world.  I have no words left for how excited I am for this game.  2012 cannot come fast enough.  Check out the video after the Jump.
