Awesome Zelda Violin Medley

I know a lot of you out there are probably already playing The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.  I haven’t had a chance, since I don’t have a Wii, but rest assured that I plan to take control of the one at my parents’ house over Thanksgiving.  For the rest of you who, like me, need your Zelda fix, you should check out this video featuring a violin medley of many songs in the Zelda canon.  Also featured: a gorgeous Lindsey Stirling in a blue Link costume. Check it out after the jump.

Humble Voxatron Debut

The Humble Bundle Is At It Again

It seems the fine folks who are responsible for the many iterations of the Humble Bundle are back at it with a special Halloween edition, of The Humble Voxatron Debut. This time you aren’t really getting a bundle, because there’s only one game, but since you pay what you want, that hardly matters, does it? This newest iteration is for the world premier of Voxatron, which looks pretty awesome in the video on the HB website (and embedded below). This is currently only the alpha version of the game, but Humble Bundle promises that those who buy will receive all future updates (including the final release) for free with purchase.

So go forth and purchase. Support indie gaming, because it’s awesome. And check out the preview video after the Jump.

NYCC: Too Big for its Boots?

In some ways, New York Comic Con has grown up too fast. It’s the smaller sibling of the world known San Diego Comic Con, and so sometimes I think people still think of it as small. Except it’s not. It’s huge. Read moreRead more

The Incredible Hawk

The Incredible Hawk

As a simultaneous shout out to True Believers and to ornithologists, Threadless has released a design they’re calling “The Incredible Hawk”.  As a fan of Jay & Silent Bob Get Old, I have to assume designers Peter Kramar and Nathan Pyle were inspired by Jason Mewes’ well documented inability to pronounce the word “hulk”.  And, while it’s not exactly my style, I hear yellow is in this season.  Unless you’re Sinestro.  Zing!

Get it here, for the Hulk fan or avian enthusiast in your life.

Its a Secret to Everybody

Joss Whedon Is Almost Finished With A Secret Film

I don’t really know how to react to this news, as it is a little too awesome to process.  Joss Whedon has apparently just finished principle photography on a completely secret film project called Much Ado About Nothing, based on the William Shakespeare play of the same name.  Until links to the film website were tweeted out by some of the film’s actors last night, nobody knew this project was even happening.  So let me get this straight:  Joss Whedon adapted one of the most well-known plays of all time into a movie he’s directing and just finished shooting, while at the same time he’s is directing (and wrote!) what will probably be the highest grossing film of next year?  Just…wow.   Check out the full press release (which is worth reading, because it is funny) and casting details after the Jump.

BlizzCon News: New Diablo 3 Trailer Released

It’s a really good thing that I completely forgot that BlizzCon 2011 was this weekend until about five minutes ago.  If I hadn’t, I would probably have spent the entire week reading everything there is to read about Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm (again) in anticipation of all of the announcements to come.  Since I did forget, however, I got a nice surprise on a Friday with a new game trailer showing some unbelievably badass demons about to lay down the hurt on the world.  I have no words left for how excited I am for this game.  2012 cannot come fast enough.  Check out the video after the Jump.

DC Comics

NYCC: State of DC Comics

DC made several announcements over the weekend, including titles coming out over the next year and just who’s going to be working on them. But let’s be real: what we all wanted to hear about was the publisher’s response to fairly fervent fan furor about the portrayal of women in a few of the New 52 titles. They certainly had a response, and it was disappointing, promising, and hilarious all at the same time. Hit the jump to get the details.

epic fantasy

NYCC: Fantasy – Straight from the Authors’ Mouth

Wading through the sea of booths, books, and colorfully dressed and smelling people is one of the main battles of attending a Comic Con.  Waiting in lines, telling your legs that they have to continue standing for the next 87 hours, and finding time to eat before your stomach lining turns on itself can prevent us from finding quality time to check out stuff in our personal realms of interest.  Luckily, I emerged victorious against these foes as I snuck my way into a tightly packed panel entitled Winter is Here: Epic Fantasy Takes the Throne, to hear from a group of fantasy authors that included one of my personal favorites: Brandon Sanderson. NYCC: Video Games at New York Comic Con

New York Comic Con featured a ton of video games this year (including Max Payne 3). It seems to me that some of the booths are even approaching E3-before-the-fall proportions. Admittedly, I’ve never been to E3, so I’m largely making that up as a way of telling you these booths were huge. Square-Enix in particular knows what’s what: they’ve got Deus Ex, Deux Ex: The Missing Link, Dead Island, and a couple of other games all set up to play demos on beautiful 56″ HD displays. Capcom was also running major tournaments of Street Fighter IV and Marvel vs Capcom.

I spent several hours trying to hit up as many of the games as I could. Most of the demos were multiplayer, but there were a couple single player as well. Some of the games were viscerally good, some of them were maddeningly bad, and some were potentially good but we’ll have to wait and see.

Here’s what I thought.

NYCC: Max Payne 3 Preview

Chris and I had the opportunity to visit the Rockstar Games booth at New York Comic Con this weekend, where we got the rundown on the company’s newest project, Max Payne 3.  Today we are going to be giving you a Nerd News And Reviews first: Chris and I busted out the camera and put our preview on video.  We’d love to know what you all think of this new format and how you’d like to see us use it in the future.  Check out the video after The Jump.
